SleepOwl ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the SleepOwl mobile application (the "App").

By using SleepOwl you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

• Sleep goal preferences (target bedtime, wake time, desired sleep duration)
• Personal metrics used to calculate your sleep profile (age, weight, height)
• Journal entries created within the wind-down routine
• Pet name and cosmetic customisation choices
• Email address, if you join our waitlist or contact us

Health & sleep data (HealthKit)

With your explicit permission, SleepOwl reads sleep data from Apple HealthKit — including sleep duration, sleep stages, and bedtime/wake time — to calculate your sleep score and generate personalised insights. This data is processed on your device and is never sold to third parties or used for advertising.

HealthKit data will not be used for advertising, will not be shared with data brokers, and will not be disclosed to third parties except as described in this policy or required by law.

Usage data

We may collect anonymous, aggregated analytics about how features are used (e.g. which screens are visited, session length) to help us improve the App. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

Subscription & purchase data

SleepOwl uses RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat may collect anonymous purchase identifiers. We do not store your payment card details; all purchases are processed by the Apple App Store.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To calculate your sleep score, readiness score, and recovery recommendations
• To operate and evolve your virtual owl companion
• To send you scheduled wind-down reminders and sleep notifications (with your permission)
• To personalise your experience and remember your preferences
• To improve the App through anonymous usage analytics
• To respond to your support requests
• To comply with legal obligations

3. Data Storage & Security

Sleep data, journal entries, and personal metrics are stored locally on your device. We apply industry-standard security measures to protect any data transmitted to or stored on our servers.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data only in the following circumstances:

• Service providers: Trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the App (e.g. RevenueCat for subscriptions, analytics providers), under strict confidentiality agreements.
• Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
• Business transfers: In the event of a merger or acquisition, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.

5. Apple HealthKit

SleepOwl's use of HealthKit data complies with Apple's HealthKit guidelines. Specifically:

• HealthKit data is used solely to provide and improve health and fitness features within the App.
• HealthKit data is never used for advertising or sold to advertising platforms.
• HealthKit data is never shared with third parties without your consent, except as required by law.
• You can revoke HealthKit access at any time via iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → SleepOwl.

6. Children's Privacy

SleepOwl is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Data portability

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App's features. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the App's settings. After deletion, we may retain anonymised, aggregated data that cannot be linked back to you.

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, by in-app notification. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
